Step 1: Set Up a Unique Email Address
Before registering, your child must have their own unique email address.
- This email cannot be shared with a parent or sibling
- It is used to track training and certification in AYSO systems
If your child does not already have an email address, please create one for them.
For children under 13, this email should be managed by a parent or guardian.

| | Step 2: Start Registration from the Parent Account
Log into your account and: - Click “My Account”
- Select “Volunteer” from the left-side menu
Then: - Click “Find Volunteer Roles”
- Select “View Divisions” under the Referee Program
- Select Referee, then click “View Selected Opportunities” in the bottom right
|
Step 3: Add Your Child as a Volunteer
You will now select the user who will be volunteering.
- Choose “Add New User” to add your child
- Enter their information and complete the required waivers
- Click “Invite User and Continue”
An email will be sent to your child’s email address with the subject:
“ACTION NEEDED: [Parent Name] volunteered you to be a Youth Referee”
Step 4: Accept the Invite and Create the Account
Open your child’s email and click “Accept Invite.”
Important:
- If you are still logged into ayso599.org as the parent, log out first
- If prompted, select “Use another account” and enter your child’s email
Complete the account setup:
- Verify the email address
- Confirm name and birthdate (this is the last chance to update without support)
- Select “Other” for relationship
- Add contact information and save
Your child now has their own AYSO Volunteer Account.
Step 5: Complete Training
You must be logged in as your child for them to complete referee training.
- Always check the top bar to confirm who is logged in
- The AYSOU button will only be active when logged into a volunteer account
- Be careful not to complete training under the wrong account, as this is difficult to correct
👉 See AYSO Volunteer Training page (background check, LiveScan, and SafeSport are not required for youth volunteers; remaining safety trainings are required.)
Step 6: Complete Referee Training
👉 See Referee Training & Certification page
Step 7: Start Refereeing
Once training is complete, your child can begin signing up for games that match their level and comfort level.
New youth referees are supported and often paired with experienced referees for their first games.
And yes—this was the hardest part.
